Maldives Airports Company Limited has officially opened a dedicated Calm Room at Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport, introduced under MACL’s newly developed Boli Programme to support passengers with hidden disabilities and special assistance needs.
The Calm Room was officially inaugurated by MACL CEO & Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, in the presence of representatives from Autism Care Maldives, Autism Association of Maldives, MACL senior officials, and staff.
The Boli Programme has been developed by MACL as a passenger care initiative to make the airport journey more inclusive, understanding, and supportive for individuals whose needs may not always be visible. Similar to hidden disability support movements introduced at international airports, Boli is designed as MACL’s own identity for recognising and assisting passengers who may require additional patience, guidance, comfort, or care.
Opened under the Boli Programme, the Calm Room at Terminal 1 is a dedicated, sensory-friendly space created to support passengers who may need a calmer and more comfortable airport experience. It is designed especially for individuals with autism, hidden disabilities, sensory sensitivities, anxiety, or anyone who may feel overwhelmed by the busy airport environment.
The room provides a quiet and welcoming setting with soft seating, child-friendly furniture, sensory play items, activity shelves, calming colours, and space for passengers and families to pause, regulate, and feel supported before continuing their journey.
As part of the Boli Programme, passengers requiring additional support will be able to collect Boli lanyards and cards from the Information Counter at Terminal 1. These will help airport staff identify passengers who may need extra assistance, allowing MACL teams to provide smoother and more considerate airport experience across key passenger touchpoints.
The opening of the Calm Room marks the first step under the Boli Programme, with MACL continuing to enhance services that support a more inclusive airport experience for all passengers.
