Smart Gate Services is introduced at Velana International Airport. 

Velana International Airport, 28 February 2024- Maldives Customs Service, in collaboration with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), has officially introduced Smart Gate services at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Wednesday.

Introduction of the Smart Gate services, passenger luggage will now be scanned using radio frequency identification (RFID) tags.

The service was inaugurated by Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, CEO and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited, at a special ceremony held at Velana International Airport's passenger terminal this morning. Commissioner General of Customs Yusuf Maniu Mohamed, senior management members of Customs and Maldives Airports Company Limited, and Stakeholders of Velana International Airport were also present at the ceremony. 

During the ceremony, Mr. Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed emphasized the role of the newly introduced Smart Gate in enhancing passenger experiences and improving service efficiency. He reiterated MACL's commitment to continually improving airport services to benefit passengers, with the support of stakeholders and partner agencies.
"We are committed, with the support of our stakeholders and partner agencies, to introduce and develop new services to enhance the experiences of passengers, and today’s service introduction is an important progress in that endeavor," stated Ibrahim Shareef.

MACL and Maldives Customs recognize the importance of enhancing passenger experiences at the country’s main air gateway to maintain accessibility to the Maldives and sustain its appeal to visitors.
The introduction of Smart Gate services at VIA represents another significant milestone in MACL and Maldives Customs' ongoing efforts to provide world-class services and facilities to passengers, ensuring a seamless and efficient travel experience.
